Two of the symbols for Netzach are the lamp and the girdle. (The third is the rose, but I don’t feel that needs any additional exploration. If you do, I invite you to meditate on it!). Here are some thoughts and questions for you to ponder.
The Lamp
The most famous lamp must be Aladdin’s Lamp, wherein there lived the genie who would grant three wishes. On a side note, always, always, always be cautious about wishes; almost always the stories where someone has made a wish comes to a rather unpleasant end for the wisher.
The lamp housed the granter of wishes. Just pause with that for a moment. The lamp was home to the one who granted wishes. Could that have meaning here? With Netzach? Can a lamp house magic? If so, what kind?
Lamps bring us light. Magical lamps bright light regardless of the weather – they cannot be extinguished by wind or by rain. They are the light everlasting, how does that resonate with your understanding (so far) of Netzach?
Why would the lamp be here and not with Hod?
The Girdle
The girdle is, in essence, a belt, but typically worn by holy people and at least some of the time by goddesses. It is a symbol of service and can be seen as a symbol of chastity. But remember from our discussion in lesson 2.3 that chastity is not of necessity about sex, but rather about purity of self and the heart.
As a symbol of service, how does that align with Netzach? Why would this be the aspect to be highlighted in the sphere who’s titles are Firmness, Value, Eternity and Triumph?
