1.1 Planetary Association: Sun

Sun Concepts

The centre of our solar system is the sun.  Solar, sol, sun.  The star is the dense core around which all other planets spin.  It is the source of heat and light that has given rise to life on our planet.

Light gives us night and day, it gives us colour, it gives us our ability to see and perceive on the visible spectrum.  That same light extends into ultraviolet and infrared.  It is the x-rays that sees through all, it is the heat that warms.

The sun is the ultimate source of fire.  As such, it gifts us with creativity, change, transformation and life.  Yet fire is also the source of death, transformation, the ultimate change.

The sun changes through the seasons, yet is in harmony with the planet as it does so, or rather terra is in harmony with the sun.  We go through winter and summer, experiencing the lows and highs of the sun.

The sun inspires intelligence, it is the ultimate light of the mind and of the spirit.

Tifareth is often considered the centre of the Tree, the heart of it.  It is the point of balance, where the forces above and the forces below come into equilibrium for a fleeting moment.  It has a bright, central intelligence and a quality of unification.  Just as the sun is the centre and unifying power of our planetary system.

a) Connect to Tifareth (via our brief opening meditation below or on your own).  Draw into your awareness your knowledges and experience of Tifareth, your sense of it.

 

b) Connect with the energies of the sun, using your own knowledge of the sun and/or the associations sheet above.  OPTION:  Listen to Edvard Grieg’s Morning Mood as you do this exercise.  Use the music to draw up your feelings, sensations and ideas on the sun.  Question to consider:  Tifareth translates to Harmony and Beauty.  How does that apply to the connection to the sun?

c)  Seek places where the two correspond well, where they resonate with each other; are there any places where you feel dissonance?  Make notes on the downloadable sheet above.

1.1 Planetary Association: Venus

Venus Concepts

Moving from the sun and closer to our own planet, we have venus, similar to earth in size, volume, mass and density (though the surface is very different).  Similar to us, but still closer to the sun, warmed by it.  What differences would that create?

As much as mercury inspires the mind, venus inspires the heart, in all the ways of the heart.  We work with venus energy when we want to explore friendship, when we want to socialize, when we seek to connect through the heart (as opposed to the body, i.e. sex).  The power of attraction is part of venus and the ability to persuade others by connecting to their inner core person and values.

Venus doesn’t just encourage connections, it invites us to see ourselves through the power of connections.  Through our relationships we come to a greater understanding of ourselves as individuals.

It requires honesty of the heart, teaching us of our core values, and to appreciate what we are drawn to, and what we dislike.  With venus we need to be honest and true to our own inner emotional experience.

Venus seeks harmony, desires it above all else, to find the connections and the balance that brings everything into coherence.

It is the artist and the dream, the music and the song.

The resonances to Netzach are strong.  Netzach is Victory, the bliss of achievement and fulfillment, the celebration of success.  It is on the Pillar of Mercy, the masculine pillar (don’t think of masculine as male, but as yang).  Netzach balances Hod, as venus could be said to balance mercury.  This is the sphere where the one becomes many, where there is joy in separation because through that separation we have connection.  Let us connect this with venus.
